Abstract
Catalyst for simultaneous oxidn. of CO and hydrocarbons and redn. of nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases from i.c. engines, contains (a) 0.01-2 wt.% Pd and/or Pt, (b) 0.1-10% cerium oxide and/or zirconium oxide, (c) 3-60% nickel oxide, and (d) silica and/or alumina carrier as the remainder. Impurities are efficiently removed by a single bed instead of two catalyst beds of different compsn. Suitable carriers are alumina, silica gel, silica/zirconia, silica/alumina cordierite, MgO/Al2O3 spinel or mullite, pref. with surface area 50-400 m2/g and sufficient porosity to take up 0.3-2 ml. soln. per g. solid carrier.
