Abstract

The bar feed tube for a machine tool has a fixed lower half machine, and an upper removable half. Each half (1) comprises an inner bed (3) of hard wearing metal typically with a cross section in the form of a letter M, the centre being a semicircle. The bed comprises several lengths laid end to end, with a gap between, along the axis of an outer casing (4). The volume between bed and casing is filled with a block (5) of elastomer material and forms a sound deadening barrier for noise generated when the tube is in use.
