Abstract

The gyroscopic motor consists of a metal disc or flywheel mounted on a spindle attached to a gimbal providing two degrees of freedom. An electric motor is used to rotate the flywheel, the gimball is mounted on a vetical shaft rotated by a second electric motor. An electromagnet is installed inside the motor housing and when its magnetic field is varied, a periodic force is exerted on the rotating disc which is transmitted to the motor housing. The electromagnet may be replaced by a permanent magnet with a part of the disc being made susceptible to magnetic attraction. Also several rotating discs may be used to give a more uniform resultant force.
