Abstract

The fore sail halyard is connected at the hoist to a swivel (3) which contains a thrust ball bearing as well as needle roller bearings. The swivel is joined to the halyard with a pulley block (6). The tack of the sail is joined to a horizontal pulley. This also contains thrust ball bearings, and needle roller bearings to enable it to revolve freely. The tack of the sail is anchored to the deck by a pin. The pulley has a guide to prevent the rope (35) from overwinding. When it is required to reef the sail, the pull on the rope (35) causes the tack of the sail to roll up around the sail halyard.
