Abstract

An electronic system for the computation of the magnitude of a two or three dimensional vector utilises modulation of the Cartesian co-ordinate values. For a particular two dimensional vector two Cartesian co-ordinate values are available. The signals are modulated and added (1) to provide an unfiltered output (A) to satisfy an equation related to the modulating frequency. Processing through a filter (2) removes the odd harmonics and a rectifier (3) and a shaping filter (4) generates an output (Mo) proportional to the vector magnitude (Vo). The process may be expanded to cover the three dimensional situation.
