Abstract
A transparent panel with good heat and sound insulating properties which can be mounted in either a wooden or a metal frame comprises two sheets of glass linked by an air and water-tight joint. In the space between the two sheets and attached to one of them are rectilinear compression cross-pieces which are parallel and equidistant. An invisible film of plastic is placed on the outside of each sheet of glass to prevent it shattering in the event of accidental breakage. The inside faces are covered with thin metallic sheeting to improve sound and heat insulation. Before the two sheets of glass are sealed together, air is removed from the space between them through a glass tube, in order to give improved heat insulating properties to the panel.
