Abstract

The ladder shaped wood lath mattress support for a bed is designed to improve lath flexibility in order that body contours may be followed more closely, and features the insertion of lath (3) ends in plastic hinge blocks (5), which are in turn inserted in frame sockets, the blocks permitting both rotation and axial sliding of the lath ends. Different blocks may be used with hollow metallic and solid timber frames. The former is a mortise box with inclined lips (6) and which is pushed into a frame aperture until the lips expand within the frame, and lock the block in place; and the latter a smooth mortise box which is nailed into a matching frame mortise.
