Abstract

The valve comprises a tubular housing with pivoting disc having an offset periphery acting in conjunction with a co-axial annular zone in the housing by means of a curved sealing element whose rim is secured to the disc or in the housing, which element has a lip which sealingly engages a surface of the housing or disc respectively, the arrangement being such that increased live pressure on the concave side of the element increases the sealing force. As seen in radial section, the sealing element can swivel about its anchoring in the direction of its concave side such that its envelope curve includes the annular sealing zone, whilst its shape and/or material is such that pressure on the convex side causes a sealing force which is greater than the force tending to lift the lip off its sealing surface.
