Abstract
In the parent patent finely-divided dispersions of calcium carbonate are prepd. by homogenisation of coarse CaCO3 or coarse pptd. CaCO3, in a suspension contg. 15-25% water and a dispersant, followed by wet milling. In the addition, in order to obtain extremely fine calcium carbonate with a high density and which is easily dispersible, the dispersion is transformed by drying into a less fluid product. The drying is pref. applied to a dispersion contg. 60-80 wt.% calcium carbonate which includes 0.2-1.0% dispersant w.r.t. the dry wt. of CaCO3, and a spray dryer is pref. employed. Process is used e.g. in mfg. white pigments for the paper industry or dispersion paints. A high apparent density of 0.8-1 kg/l can be obtd. as compared with the low value of 0.25-0.3 kg/l obtd. by conventional processes starting from a raw material with the same particle size.
