Abstract

Esters of the 1,2-anhydrides of 1,2,omega-tricarboxyalkalies, particularly those of formula: where x is 1-5, pref. 1 or 2, Y is 1-6, pref. 1-4, and R is -18C alkyl or alkylene, cycloalkyl or cycloalkylene, or a polyvalent alkyl alkylene, aryl or other similar group are used to harden epoxy resin by cross-linking the resin using (I) as cross-linking agent. The above cpds. represent an improvement on the 1,2-anhydride of 1,2,4-tricarboxybutane. By variation of the group R, x and y, the props. of the cross-linking agents can be adapted to the props required in the epoxy resins obtained.
