Abstract

The concentric vessels are cylindrical with dished ends. The inner vessel (1) has an inlet connection with a burner (2) and an outlet connection (3), the connections passing through the outer vessel. The inner vessel is heated by means of a flue gas which circulates through the vessel. The outer vessel is of similar shape and only a little larger than the inner vessel so that the two vessels are separated by an annulus (4). The large surface area and small water volume cause water sprayed into the annulus to flash off to steam. The outer vessel is fitted with a pressure gauge (9) an atomiser (5), pressurestats (7)(8) and a safety valve (5) to control the boiler operation.
