Abstract

A composition (2) which can be cast in the hot, liquid state and predominantly comprises bitumen and additionally contains granular additives of high thermal insulation is suitable for the insulation and encapsulation of pipelines (1) to be laid underground, in particular distant heating lines. In order to be able to produce these inexpensively while maintaining the good anticorrosion and thermal insulation behaviour of the insulating and encapsulation composition (2), and in particular to achieve good elastic support of the pipeline (1) sheathed therewith, the composition contains, in addition to bitumen, from 5 to 25% by weight of vulcanised or unvulcanised rubber in granule or powder form with a predominating proportion of granules, for which starting material can be, in particular, used rubber, for example used vehicle tyres.
