Abstract
The hydro-mechanical transmission for motor vehicles has a motor (11) and variable pump (12) combination wherein the input shaft (13) of the pump and the output shaft (14) of the motor are connectable through a differential gearing (15) by selective operation of two clutches (22, 23). A hydrodynamic brake (32) on a shaft (33) between the clutches is operable to reduce the speed of the motor, or the pump or both, depending on the setting of the clutches and of the brake. The differential has an annulus driven by the motor and connectable to a planet carrier by the first clutch to establish drive to the road wheels and to the brake.
