Abstract

Regulation for alternators and dynamos where the machine output may vary, as in the case of motor vehicle generators. The design is intended to eliminate the problems associated with orthodox electro-mechanical systems by using a purely integrated circuit regulator. The entire solid state circuitry has a basic two input comparator fed from the generator and a zener diode reference source. A feedback loop is provided between the comparator output and the reference source input via an inverter. The comparator output is fed through a P N P transistor having in its emitter circuit the field coil across which a diode allows the coil to discharge when the supply line is open circuited.
