Abstract

Shock absorber for a quay wall spreads the impact force imparted to vessel hulls etc. and obviate holing or denting of modern thin plated hulls. The shock absorber has two inclined rubber I beams (1) between a fender plate (7) and the quay wall. The I beams are inclined towards each other away from the quay and have their flanges (5, 6) bolted to the wall and the fender plate (7). The angle (theta) between the centre line of an I beam web (4) and the sea wall is between 60 deg. and 85 deg., typically 75 deg., and web thickness (t) is between 25 and 35 %, typically 30%% of the distance (H) between the outer faces of the flanges (5, 6).
