Abstract

A soft contact cylinder of e.g. rubber is in contact with cylinder and rotates at the same peripheral speed, while a wiper cylinder of very small diameter is pressed against the contact cylinder in the area of descending movement of its generants, an ink reservoir being formed in the space above the contact area between them. The system is particularly for use with litho offset printing machines. The wiper cylinder, in the form of a rod, is driven in the same direction as the contact cylinder, thus having a flattening effect on the ink in the reservoir, and wiping the contact cylinder by running against the stream. The wiper cylinder can be driven by a variable-speed motor, controlled by an ink thickness detector monitoring and printed articles, and a reciprocating axial movement can also be imparted to it.
