Abstract
Pyrotechnic compsn. for generating low-temp. non-toxic gas, esp. for use in a vehicle safety bag, consists of Al, Mg, or a carbonaceous material as fuel; a metal or NH4 (per) chlorate or nitrate as oxidiser; and Mg(OH)2 or MgCO3/Mg(OH)2 mixt. as coolant. A pref. compsn. consists of (by wt) 1-10% fuel, 30-70% oxidiser and 10-60% coolant. Use of org. binders is not necessary as inorg. coolant acts as a binder.
