Abstract

The exhaust gas pipe (1) from the engine enters the expansion chamber (2) which has an outlet (10) at the downstream end and which produces laminar flow. The gases pass into the centrifugal separator chamber (11) which is in the form of a downward spiral with the inlet at the top and the outlet at the base. Solid particles in the gas fall onto the sloping face (14) and are collected in the cone at the base of the separator chamber and discharged into a collector. An air pipe (20) enters the separator chamber at the top and the air entrains the exhaust gases with it so that the mixture is discharged through outlet (17). Electrostatic precipitation is used in the collector.
