Abstract

Perforated lid (1) with adjustable obturating shutter (3) and for use with culinary vessels, e.g. boiling pans, is designed to permit partial or free steam escape as desired and to double as a residual liquid strainer. The sheet steel lid (1) has circumferential grooves for pan rim engagement, with pref. a 120 deg. segment of the lid forming disc (1) provided with uniformly and closedly spaced perforations (2). An obturating plate (3) of segmental disc form rotates about the lid centre and is capable of entirely covering the perforations. A screw (5) washer (14) and button (6) arrangement forms the obturator's (3) axis of rotation and screw tightening can impart the desired frictional resistance to rotation.
