Abstract

The gear change of the automatic transmission is controlled by a number of selective brakes operating on the epicyclic gear trains. The brakes are operated w.r.t. hydraulic pressure from a pump. To modulate the gear change positions, and in order to smooth out the gear change action to protect the transmission components and provide a more comfortable ride, the output from the pump is modulated by an electromagnetic flap valve. The flap is pulled shut against hydraulic pressure, by the action of the solenoid. The amount of solenoid pressure is easily regulated by the control circuit.
