Abstract

The machine is for discharging material from deep holds in bulk carriers, and delivering it into an elevator. It comprises a series of elevator wheels (32, 32', 32") working in conjunction with the bucket wheel (21) and incorporating compartments, arranged in an ascending chain in the frame (37). The contents of the buckets are discharged under gravity into the compartments of the bottom elevator wheel, which in turn discharges under gravity into those of the next one up, the material being finally conveyed away from the top one. The wheels are all driven at the same speed. The wheels can have taper faces, by which they run on taper bearings mounted in the frame.
