Abstract

The parent patent describes tyres incorporation folded layers of reinforcement plies extending from the upper regions of the sidewalls into the matrix between the carcass reinforcement plies and the sub-tread reinforcement plies. In this Addn. Patent the extra plies are further reinforced by enclosure in the apex of the folds of hoops of reinforcing cables. The construction gives greater relative enhancement of the tyre stiffness as the outer regions of the sidewalls, to improve tyre rigidity and reduce 'floating' at high speeds or when cornering, esp. for radial ply tyres.
