Abstract

A sliding window has one pane which can move a short way perpendicular to its plane, and has a locking and pressure mechanism which acts so that when the sliding panel is locked shut it presses up against the fixed panel. The pressure mechanism (7) is mounted on a fixed axis supported by a base fixed to the lower horizontal member (1) of the frame, and consists basically of a lever (14) and an aperture (15) which covers and locks a button (9) fixed to the sliding panel (6) when the latter is in the closed position. The pressure mechanism simultaneously rotates on the same axis, pressing the lever (14) against the glass panel (6). The two panels are held rigidly together when closed eliminating draughts and water. When open, the two panels are some distance apart so that they do not rub against one another. The sliding panel can also be locked in any required open position.
