Abstract

An electrodynamic loudspeaker has the conical shaped vibrating membrane (1) of the low frequency loudspeaker attached to a coil former (2) on which the coil (3) is wound. The membrane is suspended flexibly at its outer extremity by a ring (7) of flexible material attached by its periphery to the rigid frame (8). The inner extremity is supported and centralised by a readily deformable bellows (9). Two dome shaped partitions (13, 14) are fixed in the cone to form two truncated cone shaped cavities which are filled with low density sound absorbing material such as glass wool to correct for distortion and intermodulation by attenuating transverse vibrations and deformations of the membrane.
