Abstract
Method involves (a) feeding a CO2-contg. gas into a horizontal conduit contg. packing material at a feed rate of 400-800 pds./hr./sq. ft. of conduit cross-section, the gas inlet temp. being 65-300 degrees F, and (b) flowing a stream of aq. alkali metal hydroxide through the packing countercurrent to the CO2 and recirculating the soln. in a direction perpendicular to the gas stream at a rate of 5000-7000 lbs./hr./sq. ft. of conduit bottom wall area. A portion of he resulting alkali metal carbonate soln. is drawn off as prod. The method is more economic and efficient than the countercurrent process.
