Abstract

The electrical cartridge fuse provides space for gas expansion resulting from the rapid melting of the fusible element. The cartridge consists of an outer ceramic or glass comparatively robust cylinder (3) provided with two metal end caps (4, 5) intended to fit into the fuse block of the circuit to be protected and to provide a contact with the fusible element (1). The latter is a metal strip having a calibrated section (2) at its centre, carried in a thin wall insulating tube (15) fitting diagonally across the length of the outer cylinder. The tube (15) divides the fuse into an inner melting space (17) for the element (1) and an outer expansion area (18).
