Abstract

The valve comprises a body (1), an inlet (11) and an outlet (12), a valve seat (4) and a valve plate (2, 3). On the other side of the inlet space from the valve plate is a flexible diaphragm (5) connected rigidly to the valve plate (2) by a shaft (6). The edges of the diaphragm are sealed in the body of the valve (9, 10). The diaphragm permits movement of the shaft in either direction, and its surface area is about equal to that of the plate opposite. The diaphragm can be replaced by a piston sliding in a suitable location. The space above the piston or diaphragm can be sealed and connected to a pressure supply as part of a control system.
