Abstract

The safety valve is formed in a pressurised container, such as an aerosol, to control the area which fails in the event of overpressure caused by, for example, heating. Although it may be applied to any region of the container, it is preferably fitted ain the concave base so that the contents are ejected downwards when failure occurs. The valve consists of a region of the base pressed outwards and having portions astamped thinner in the process. When internal pressure rises, these thinner portions fail first and prevent more explosive rupture of the main container. Various forms of the valve, conical, cylindrical and stepped or possible and all are cheap to produce.
