Abstract

An electronic vernier device is used in conjunction with rotary drives to measure linear displacements of machine-tool elements. The device has a slotted disc and two phototransistors (2, 3) which are excited by reflected or by direct light from a luminous source. The slots are inclined at an angle to the radius of the disc and the two phototransistors are aligned on a radius of the disc (1). The value of the angle of the slots is determined from the pitch of screw drive and the distance separating the two phototransistors (2, 3) such that the signals from the transistors are displaced and this displacement corresponds to an increment of the screw pitch.
