Abstract

Conventionally, particles are separated from a fluid stream by filtration in which the fluid is forced through a static filter element. In this device the filter element undertakes movement (e.g. rotation) in the fluid, so that fluid flow is induced through the element. May be applied to the removal of solids from liquids or for removal of solids or liquids from gas streams. It is not necessary to pump the fluid from one point to another to achieve purification. The filter bed may in some circumstances be regenerated in position without removal from the device.
