Abstract
The heat exchanger, typically a radiator, has tubes running between top and bottom tanks, side panels, and corrugated cooling fins fitting between the tubes and between tubes and side plates, all being welded or brazed together, although there is no or only a limited amount of joining between the fins and the side panels. A gap is formed between the side panels (17, 18) near the area where this joining between them is limited on non-existent, but is so designed as to prevent the liquid brazing escaping during the brazing operation. The design allows for different rates of expansion in different zones when in use.
