Abstract

The heat exchanger consists of a number of water tube assemblies. Each assembly comprises a number of tubes (12) joined at their ends by elbows (14) to form a contiuous passage. The elbows are forced on to the tubes by a press, then the assembly is placed in a mould and a coating of light alloy (18) is cast on to the tubes. Ribs (16) on the elbows transmit the load from the press, and serve to align the assembly in the mould. Adjacent tubes are offset so that they are not in the same vertical plane. This method of construction eliminates problems encountered when a casting mould core is used to form the water passages.
