Abstract

Compsns. contain a synergistic mixt. of (a) guancydine (I; 1-t-amyl-3-cyano guanidine) and (b) reserpine (II) at (I): (II) wt. ratio of 50-12500:1, esp. together with 0.01-10 wt. %, on (I) plus (II), of a diuretic, esp. acetazolamide or quinethazone. The compsns. are used as hypotensives for oral administration at 5-25 mg/kg/day (I) and 0.002-0.1 mg/kg/day (II). The increase in cardiac frequency caused by (I) is reduced when (II) is given simultaneously and the diuretic prevents liquid and/or Na retention.
