Abstract
The unit is for use as a rotary pump raising fluid from a lower to a higher level, or as a turbine with the flow in the opposite direction. It has a rotor (10) with a diffuser (42) between inlet and outlet, and these together form all the retaining and guiding members for the fluid between inlet and outlet. Means can be provided for driving the pump at constant speed, and centre lines of rotor and diffusor can be vertical. Where used as a turbine, there can be fluid acceleration members between inlet and rotor, these together forming all retaining and guiding members for the fluid between inlet and outlet. In this case also the centre lines of rotor and acceleration members can be vertical.
