Abstract

This cartridge fuse has a transparent or translucent, hollow and cylindrical body (2) sealed by end caps that form contacts for the fusible link (1) that is suspended between them. The link is surrounded by sand and has a layer (8, 9) of lead and tin alloy and aluminium or magnesium deposited upon it. When the link ruptures, the vaporisation of the metals causes a deposite to permeate through the sand and coat the inner walls of the body. As these are not opaque, this deposit gives a visual indication of fuse rupture.
