Abstract

The shelf is centrally supported by a bracket with several rollers engaging the base of the shelf, the number of brackets being related to the length of the shelf. At each end of the shelf is an angle iron which slides inside an associated fixed rail. A chain is fixed to the angle iron and passes over a drive pinion and a return pinion. The drive pinion is able to be turned by a hand crank so that movement of the chain causes the shelf to move transversely to its length. The hand crank may be replaced by a motor for large shelves and the shelf may be locked in its retracted or extended position dependent upon whether the shop shutters are down or up.
