Abstract

When this system operates a hydraulic reversible piston, fluid is pumped into either end of the piston cylinder. This is controlled by a valve unit whose ports are opened and shut by an axially moving valve carrier. Its movement originates from solenoids at either end of its shaft. As it moves, it deflects a potentiometer and creates a voltage varying between +V and -V. This is compared to a control potentiometer output by an electronic comparator and any resulting difference output is used to drive one or other of the solenoids, thus moving the valve carrier until a null is obtained. In this way a piston can be remotely controlled.
