Abstract

The surface props. of extruded thermoplastic profiles are modified by spraying the hot surfaces leaving the die with finely-divided powdered or fibrous matls. The particles become anchored in the hot surface before it chills. Process is used to modify the friction, adhesive or texture characteristics of the surface, by applying colourants or protective coatings, inside and/or outside hollow profiles, and requires less modifying agent to be used than cpds. involving dispersion of the additive throughout the bulk profile. Process is readily applied to existing processing equipment.
