Abstract

Magnetic tape is produced by deposn. of alloys on an endless steel belt passing through an electrolyte bath divided into independent cells, each having an anode connected through a variable resistance to a D.C. source whose cathode side is connected to the steel belt. The magnetic tape is removed from the belt as it leaves the last cell. The difficulty of maintaining an even current density in a single cell over the entire length of the cell is eliminated; bubbles, etc. are eliminated as the band passes from one cell to the next; and the conditions can be varied from cell to cell.
