Abstract

The plant is the type comprising an activated sludge chamber connected to a sedimentation chamber, and has an air compressor to promote aerobic biological action and assist circulation. The plant is constructed as a packaged unit in which the air compressor is mounted on and/or in a horizontal cylindrical tank which is divided into biological treatment and sedimentation chambers by a partition set at an angle to the horizontal axis of the tank so that the area at the top of the sedimentation chamber is much greater than the area at the bottom of this chamber. Pref. the transfer pipe from the biological treatment chamber to the sedimentation chamber via the lower part of the partition has an outlet bend directed downward with a divergent bell mounted discharge orifice delivering over the suction end of a return pipe to the biological treatment tank. The purified water is suitable for conventional disposal, e.g. via public authority drains.
