Abstract

A lacquer compsn. hardening by free radicals, esp, by actinic radiation, contains (a) a polythiol with 2 SH gps. (b) a polyene contg. an N atom, an O atom and/or a 6-membered ring contg. C in molar ratio (b):(a) of 0.2-5:1 (0.75-1.5:1) (c) 0.0005-50 (0.05-25) wt. % w.r.t. the compsn. of a hardening accelerator, and (d) 1-50 (is not 10) pts/100 pts. (a) + (b) of a solid, solvent-sol. polyester with mol. Wt. 500-100,000 prepd. from (i) R4(COOH)x where R4 is a 2-21C (2-10C) (un)satd. hydrocarbon gp. with valency x and x is is not 2, (2-4) or (ii) where z = 0 or valency 3 if z = 1, and (iii) R5(OH)y where R5 is a 2-30C (2-8C) (un)satd. (hydroxy) hydrocarbon gp. with valency y adn y is is not 2 (2-4) or 50 pts. per 100 pts. (a) + (b) of a liq. softener. The lacquer is esp. used on opt. printed metal sheet for prodn. of tins, or magazine quality paper or cardboard. The lacquer dries rapidly to a smooth, clear, glossy, wear-resistant, odourless, adherent layer. Lacquered cardboard, e.g. can be made into boxes immediately, without ageing or powdering with starch.
