Abstract

The hybrid system has an electric motor as a propulsion unit driven solely by a storage battery for a period when its tension is above a first preset value and by a constant output generator turned by an internal combustion engine when the battery tension falls below a pre-set value. The generator performance is sufficient to both propel the vehicle and recharge the battery. The difference between the fixed output performance of the generator and the variable input performance of the traction motor is used to recharge the batteries. The fact that the engine is used only at constant speed and performance permits a favourable layout to minimise toxic exhaust emission.
