Abstract

In the Parent Patent, appts. for taking samples of particles in suspension in the air for microbial analysis includes a small container in the form of a cup which holds a nutrient medium to fix the germs in the air drawn through the appts. by a battery-driven suction fan. In this addn., instead of a Petri dish on a support, the container and its support are moulded in one piece; this is provided at mid-height with a base and is divided into three compartments by raised ribs. Provision is thus made for three different media corresponding to the bacteria it is desired to trap. The moulded container rests on lugs of a slightly conical box. A motor drives a suction turbine. For use, the container is sterilised and the three different media are poured into the compartments. Air drawn into the box passes out through grooves in the annular border. The turbulence created above the container facilitates contact with the nutrient media. The new container eliminates any risk of the culture media coming into contact with the outlet end of the box.
