Abstract

A trailer steering system has a pair of double acting pistons controlling the steering, as in the main patent. Two hydraulic actuators (D1, D2) connected to the steering wheel are connected by a rack and pinion drive to two members, one in tension (11) and one in compression (12) which respond to the angular alignment of the vehicle. One of the actuators, e.g. (D1) is connected to the larger chambers (6b, 7b) of the two cylinders (6, 7) containing the pistons when the other actuator (D2) is connected to the smaller chambers (6a, 7a). The distribution circuits for the actuators include respective pumps (P1, P2) discharging into reservoir tanks (R1, R2) with level dectors (13, 14) and interconnected by a common line (10), and the circuits are interrupted when a mean steering position is reached.
