Abstract

The hot flow enters an outlet axially from the interior of a piston and passes therefrom over the thermostat element mounted in the outlet. The entry of the cold flow to the outlet is controlled by a relatively large flange formed on the piston and separating the cold inlet from the correspondingly large diameter outlet. When the hot flow temp. rises the element moves the piston to reduce the hot inlet and by corresponding movement of the flange admit an annular flow of cold fluid to the outlet. The diameter of the flange may be up to twice that of the piston.
