Abstract

Propionic acid derivs. of formula (I) are new: (where R1 = H, 1-5C alkyl, halo, OH, 1-4C alkoxy or CF3; R2 and R3 = H or 1-5C alkyl; X = halo; Y = 0, 1-6C alkylenethio or alkyleneoxy or alkylenedioxy; Z = COOH or a gp. convertible into COOH; n = 1 or 2). (I) are hypolipaemics and hypoglycaemics of low toxicity with few side effects. Usual adult dose is 0.03-1 g./day for hyperlipaemia and 0.1-3 g./day for diabetes.
