Abstract

High voltage blade generating electrostatic charges to apply freshly extruded thermoplastic film to the surface of a chill roll, where the blade is maintained at a temp >=200 degrees C Used esp. for blades mounted within 10 mm of the film/tool contact line. The high surface temp. prevents contamination of the blade surface by condensation of volatile materials from the film. Increased blade life allows a more rigid blade to be used, in turn allows film transport speeds to be raised from =30m/s to >=35 m/s because of improved field flux uniformity, compared with use of a wire electrode which can vibrate more easily.
