Abstract

Two-compartment syringe is intended for the parenteral injection of two prods. one after the other. It comprises two cylinders the latter being movable by a plunger fixed in a plug at the end of the second cylinder. The other end of the latter is fitted with a membrane. The end of the cylinder is also fitted with a membrane and is arranged to receive the double-ended needle which can successively pierce the two membranes. The second cylinder can slide inside the first cylinder when the plunger is pushed; the liq. in the large cylinder is then evacuated through the needle. As the piston moves forward the liq. contd. in the second cylinder can then be injected. The device is for use in those cases where two liqs. are to be injected successively, without the liqs. coming into contact. The syringe can be sterilised and delivered in a sealed package. The device also finds a use in analytical laboratories for the successive delivery of two prods. the relative quantities of each being exactly determined in the preliminary packing.
