Abstract

A binder compsn. for use in a paper coating compsn. contg. a pigment, contains a water soluble random copolymer contg. 60-95% acrylamide and 5-40% vinyl ester pref. acetate, the binder compsn. itself comprising 60-0.5 pts. of the copolymer and 40-99.5 pts. of a latex. The compsn. has good water retention props. binding power, and gives a coated paper with good ink receptivity, gloss and water resistance.
