Abstract

The two lower rollers which lie beneath the plate being rolled are vertically adjustable and the adjustment is independent for each roller. The rollers carry gear wheels at one end and each gear is permanently meshed to a gear on the central drive shaft. The shaft and roller gears are kept in mesh by keeping their centre distances constant. This is done by means of a plate passing through the drive shaft and each roller. A clutch mechanism enables the drive to the rollers to be disengaged without disturbing the position of the rollers.
